The veterinarians at Godspeed Animal Care take dental health very seriously, as it is fundamental in maintaining a healthy pet. Pet dental care is not about cosmetics, but about preventing calculus from forming and preventing bacteria from getting in your pet’s blood stream. Each dental exam we perform holds to the rigorous standards set forth by the American Animal Hospital Association. Prior to the dental cleaning, pre-anesthetic blood work is performed on your pet to properly determine anesthetic parameters. During the procedure, a tooth-by-tooth assessment is performed and documented and radiographs are taken. Your pet’s vitals, such as blood pressure, blood oxygen and CO2 levels, and temperature, as well as electrocardiogram readings, are closely monitored by a dedicated surgical assistant. Your dog or cat receives intravenous fluids to help maintain organ function throughout the procedure.
Our hospital’s dental suite is equipped with state-of-the-art dentistry equipment, including a Sopix2 Digital Dental X-ray unit to fully evaluate tooth roots and oral structures for abscesses, bone loss due to periodontal disease, and certain types of cancer. Our staff and veterinarians use this technology for every dental procedure we do. Our dental machine uses a pizo scaler, which allows us to safely ultrasonically scale below the gum line where bacteria is trapped.
Should your pet require dental extractions, we provide local anesthetic blocks as needed during the procedure and provide safe and effective pain management options for post-op care. After the procedure, smaller animals recover in a climate- and temperature-controlled heating unit, and larger animals are covered with a warm-air heating blanket. Each dog or cat leaves with a report card of the dental findings and recommendations, along with before and after pictures.
