According to the microchipping professionals at HomeAgain, “1 in 3 pets will get lost during their lifetime. Without ID, 90% of lost pets will never return home.” Keeping this in mind, the veterinarians at Godspeed Animal Care recommend that your dog or and cat receive a HomeAgain microchip to provide permanent identification should your pet ever get lost or stolen.
The microchipping procedure is a simple, one-time insertion. The microchip is inserted under the skin with a syringe that causes little to no pain, does not require surgery, and is designed to stay in place and not migrate. You are welcome to stay with your dog or cat during the procedure if you’d like.
After the microchip is inserted, our staff enrolls your dog or cat’s identification code in combination with your contact information in the national registry. This creates the link that will connect you to your pet should your animal get lost or stolen. You are then able to update your pet’s profile online, upload a photograph, enter medical information, and change your contact data if you move.
Should someone recover your lost pet and take it to an animal shelter or veterinary hospital, the staff will scan your dog or cat for a microchip and then contact HomeAgain, which will search its registry to help reunite you with your pet.
Losing your dog or cat is a traumatic experience. Ensure the safe recovery of your beloved pet by calling Godspeed Animal Care for a microchipping appointment.
