The veterinarians and staff at Godspeed Animal Care in Williamsburg, Virginia, recommend that every dog and cat be spayed or neutered. Not only does spaying or neutering prevent overpopulation and unwanted liters, but also it helps to reduce behavioral problems, the risk of cancer, and other health issues.
During your pet’s wellness exam, our veterinarian discusses with you the best time to have your animal spayed or neutered. You can make an appointment for the surgery at that visit.
For the surgery, your dog or cat receives a pre-surgical exam, pre-anesthetic blood work, intravenous (IV) catheter, and IV fluids. We follow American Animal Hospital Association standards, ensuring the best quality care for each and every pet.
Our highly trained staff then monitors your pet throughout the spaying or neutering procedure while keeping your animal comfortable with a warm water recirculating blanket. We also do our best to reduce any pain your puppy or kitten might have by providing pain management during and after the procedure.
After the procedure, we will contact you with an update on your pet and will schedule a pick-up appointment. During this appointment, the veterinarian will provide specific post-op instruction for your pet.
